I was listening to the message I was using to produce the podcast (find it at revtrev.com/radio) What to do when you want to give up. I got to the part about planting seeds in a famine because maybe God will bless them.
I preached What to Do When You Want to Give Up at the start of COVID-19 and thought I should pause and think about what seeds I’ve planted.
If you were to look on my autofocus list that I keep myself up-to-date with, you might be overwhelmed for me.
Trust me, I’m not.
I get invigorated when I see a plan come together. I get motivated to finish the work I’ve been entrusted to do.
But I have learned to take a breath and look at what’s been able to be planted during this time that can easily be considered a drought.
Isaac planted in a drought and God blessed it...he really blessed it. Isaac was able to have 100 fold increase.
All I offer is loaves and fishes that Jesus can choose to bless and multiply how he likes.
But it’s great to celebrate where we’ve come from before we get to where God wants us to be.
Join me as I celebrate what I feel God has prompted me to attempt and empowered me to accomplish.

And oh yah, I spoke a series on The Harvest is Plentiful and from that mapped out a new course with the working title “Live LIGHT, Shine Bright - to help you move from regularly feeling guilty and less than you are because you’d rather outsource the Great Commission to being empowered by Holy Spirit to joyfully proclaim the Kingdom, reveal the Kingdom and Obey the King as you go in the day-to-day of your everyday.”
That’s a mouthful. I need to work on that. Everything in it’s time.
I can’t get caught up in the rush. I need times to reflect, times to remember.
Pauses help me remember that it is the stories that I hear about how things I do encourage and bless YOU that blesses me so much.
I get reminded that the only metric I’m interested in is the stories of lives finding peace at all times and in every situation.
You see why I took time to pause and consider and appreciate what’s been done.

Philippians 2:2-4 The Message Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.
When I started counselling couples, one of the first activities I had them do was to set up ground rules for fighting. If it was premarital counselling and the couple wasn’t living together the rules were a little airy-fairy. If the couple was in trouble they’d come back with rules, “Only slam the door once when you’re running away from the argument.
It didn’t take me long to develop this tool to give them. I’ve developed it further over time and encourage people to use it with whoever they need to confront about something. This works great to start any difficult conversation.
For couples I now recommend they dance their discussions. Either one can suggest a dance. Neither one can ever deny. Hold each other close, sway to some beat and don’t try to step on each others toes.
For non-married relationships we have tips to how to fight with HONOUR
Speak to the situation “This is what you
did/said; this is why I disagree/it upset me.”
Cut out the sarcasm, condemnation and shame.
Resorting to name calling and labels is the same as placing curses on people. Don’t do it to them, even if they started it.
Avoid saying, “You always” and “You never”. Both are untrue and are used to simply cause pain. If you’re physically present with the person, look at them in the eye and don’t turn your back to them.
Listen to what they are saying. Reflect back what you think you hear and see. When they agreed you hear them, continue on.
It’s OK to disagree. Allow them the right to hold their own opinion. Don’t go to bed angry. Don’t bring the argument up with others to rally support or curry pity; continue to honour the person. Remember it’s your job to choose to forgive and choose to bless.
Holy Spirit thank you that you’ll give us the words to say whenever we need them. Thank you Jesus you’ll give us your love when we need more. Thank you Father you give us wisdom when we ask. Please be with those who are watching this because they need to confront someone about something. Help them to speak truth in love. Amen.

Mathew 6:25-26 The Message “If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body. Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.
I’ve met a few Christians who admit they worry. I’ve met so many more that call worrying prayer and wonder why their prayers don’t get answered. You have a good Father who loves you and I have tips to help you to stop the worry today.
1 Peter 5:7 (NLT) Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
12 times in Matthew 6 Jesus used a term for God that was rarely used in Hebrew Scriptures - He called him Father.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Don’t try to stop worrying. How can you stop thinking about something by thinking about not thinking about it? All you end up doing is putting condemnation on yourself when you start to worry. Instead, learn to take those worries and turn them into fervent, effective prayers.
Make it a habit to think about what you think about. When you find yourself thinking about things you worry or fear, turn it over to praying about the truth about God and His promises for you. And keep your worries for your prayer time. If you find yourself worried or fearful in the day, put it off until your prayer time. You can train yourself to put off those thoughts until later. You can even tell them, “Not now.” If you find you can’t put those worries off, start your prayer time then and there.

Matthew 7 1-5 The Message “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on your neighbour’s face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, ‘Let me wash your face for you,’ when your own face is distorted by contempt? It’s this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbour.
When I was younger, I thought confrontation was a good word. I’d run to any challenge. I’d face any comer. That’s changed since my heart attack. But the good news is, I learned how to speak the truth in love that’s what I’m going to share with you today.
Heavenly Father, if we need to talk to someone about something help us to do it in love. Help us to look out for the interest of others. Help us to speak in love. Give us boldness to speak the truth.

Matthew 6:30-33 The Message (MSG) “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
We live in a culture that praises busyness. Have you ever caught your responding to the question “How are you doing?” By saying, “I’m busy”?
I’m not criticizing people who have a lot on the go. It’s the Christian work ethic that has built western civilization. I know we can accomplish a lot a feel satisfied not overwhelmed.
But it’s the feeling of being overwhelmed with busyness I’m going to help you get over today.
You were created to walk with God in garden in the cool of the day. Let’s help you get there today.
1. Confess the sinful ways you have responded to the shame root in your life.
Heavenly Father, I have used busyness to keep me from feeling shame and in response to the shame I feel by (insert activity). In doing this, I have given other people the right to determine my worth. I have not trusted what you say about me. I ask for your forgiveness for this sinful pattern and receive your forgiveness today. Help me to allow Holy Spirit to heal the root of shame in my life.
2. Ask the Father to remind you of people who have shamed you. Make the choice to forgive them.
Heavenly Father, I choose to forgive people who have shamed me. Specifically I choose to forgive (name the person) for shaming me by (incident). I release them into your hands and bless them in the name of Jesus.
3. Ask the Father to break the lies you have come to believe about yourself.
Ask the Father, Son or Spirit to take you back to the place in your past where shame took root. You’ll be brought to a memory.
Describe the situation or picture.
Find where Jesus (or the Father, or the Spirit) is in the memory.
Ask Jesus (or the Father, or the Spirit) the lie you learned from the situation (there can be more than shame).
Renounce the lie(s).
Ask Jesus (or the Father, or the Spirit) what the truth is.
Agree with God and declare the truth.
If you have difficulty with this process get someone with Sozo, Theophostic, or Immanuel training to help you.
4. Live out shame-free relationships.
It is only through healthy relationships that the wounds of shame can ever be fully healed. You need to get into life-giving relationships that do not shame you into action or inaction. You need to commit to doing the same for others.

Heavenly Father, thank you for being a good father and for taking care of every need. Thank you for providing us with everything we need for life and godliness. Thank you Jesus that we can’t work the show or work for the dough. Thank you Father we can trust you.

So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective. Your old life is dead. Your new life, which is your real life—even though invisible to spectators—is with Christ in God. He is your life. When Christ (your real life, remember) shows up again on this earth, you’ll show up, too—the real you, the glorious you. Meanwhile, be content with obscurity, like Christ. Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original. I haven’t really laid out the “How to” of a fast from negativity. It’s because that’s something that really up to you. When we do one together over Lent, I set more of the boundaries. But when your doing it or organizing your own group to do one, these tips will help.
